Almond-shaped Eyes: The dog has a bearlike head with falling ears and dark almond-shaped eyes. It is all white, or principally white with markings of badger, gray, or varying shades of tan. The moderately long, straight or slightly undulating outer coat covers a fine white undercoat.
Almond (Prunus amygdalus).—This nut is the stone of a dry, peach-like fruit which splits open at maturity and frees the nut. The tree also resembles the peach both in appearance and hardiness. Because of its very early blossoming habit, however, the almond bears satisfactorily only in subtropical climates. The principal almond-producing countries are Italy, Spain, Iran, the United States (California), and Portugal.
The sweet almond (Prunus amygdalus) [5B] is one of the world's most popular nuts and is indigenous to the eastern Mediterranean. Those grown in Jordan are particularly fine for making sugared almond. Sweet almonds are an essential ingredient of Florentines, marzipan and dainty petits fours, and bitter almond provides the essence to flavour confectionery. One of the most delicious sweetmeats is the candied marrons glaces of southern France, made from the large European chestnut (Castanea saliva) [5cj. Chestnuts are roasted or used to make preserves.
