Building Will House The Lou:

Building Will House The Lou The building will house the Lou Ruvo Alzheimer's Institute, a proposed center for the research and treatment of neurological disorders funded by Las Vegas liquor distributor Larry Ruvo. Backers are hoping the building also will become the city's first architectural icon that doesn't house slot machines.

Unconventional Wisdom : Energy Efficient House Design by Marcia Wolff Interior designer Marcia Wolff wanted a house that's energy-efficient, ecologically sensitive, fire-resistant and, above all, beautiful. So she chose a building material that might surprise some people: straw. Wolff and her husband, Steve Tarr, are building a 2,600-square-foot house in South Akron, Ohio, using bales of wheat straw for insulation. The house's frame is similar to that used in conventional construction, but the walls were designed to accommodate stacks of bales that will be covered with plaster made from local clay.

BEFORE YOU start building a patio you should give a lot of thought to where you will put it. Normally, it will be adjacent to the house so that you can walk directly on to it. However, that may not always provide the best exposure to the sun for most of the day, depending on which way the back or side of your house faces. It may be better to build a separate patio away from the house and linked to it by a pathway.
