Captivity At Home: The young of the above turtles are the ones which most often fall into the hands of children. They are easy to maintain in captivity at home or at school. The adults are not so easy to house because of their size and their need for room and freedom. Adults should be kept as pets only in a home with a garden pool available, but the young are the simplest of pets to house and maintain.
May be kept in school room for a few days for observation; use cage large enough to allow it to move about freely; release in home garden with pond.
Centipedes are so secretive and so quick in their movements that they may be difficult to observe in captivity. They cannot be considered as pets, but they are easily maintained in captivity, are interesting creatures, and are worth keeping for any observations children may be able to make.
The Java sparrow is one of the most satisfactory of all birds for a pet either in a home or in a classroom. It is extremely hardy in captivity, is long-lived, learns quickly, and is easily tamed and trained. In its native countries it is a common household pet. It is also the bird used by the street fortune tellers so common in the Orient.
