Important Family Of Birds: RAILS, ralz, an important family of birds, the Rallidae, related to the cranes. The rail family is widely distributed in all the temperate regions of the world, including many small oceanic islands, and numbers about 132 species. Birds are more important in their control of destructive insects than are cats as pets.
