Number Of Children:

Number Of Children Experience with numbers begins early and comes before computation. School affords numerous opportunities for number experiences. Counting precedes the development of numerical concepts. Taught by traditional methods it does not involve discrimination and generalization. However, there are many real things which children are interested in counting: the number of children who order milk for lunch, the number in different groups, the number of napkins needed for a party, and the like.

There are many opportunities for children to comprehend quantities by seeing collections of definite numbers of things: 50 books, 100 pencils, 75 children on the platform, 90 tickets, a pile of 150 apples brought by the children as a Thanksgiving gift, and similar groups of known number.

In the example, five reservations are shown for June 22. Foreach reservation, the surname, number of guests, and rate are indicated. Note that the number of children is shown in parentheses. Most hotels permit children under 13 to stay in the same room with their parents at no additional charge. Guests 13 years or older are usually treated as extra (adult) guests.
