Other Small Rodent: It must be remembered, however, that some snakes feed on other snakes, some feed on frogs, and some small ground varieties feed on insects, slugs, and lizards.
Many captive snakes often accept freshly killed food when it is dropped in their cages. There is an advantage to this type of feeding as it prevents any large rodent from biting the snake if the rodent is not killed at once by the snake. It also prevents the snake from bruising its nose in case it should miss the rodent and strike the side of the cage. Many excellent specimens have been injured seriously by such action.
