Over-exuberant Growth Is Pruned:

Over-exuberant Growth Is Pruned Once a framework has been formed, the most important objective is to keep the climber in check—lateral shoots may grow up to 12ft in a single year and unless this over-exuberant growth is pruned, the plant can soon become a jungle of stems and may grow too large for its allotted area. Severely pruning a wisteria during winter will only encourage even more rapid growth.

Many of these roses flourish despite neglect, although many others respond well to regular pruning. Indeed, in many cases this is the only way to control their growth. All of these can be pruned as for Group Three.

Sometimes, usually because of infection, the new Tissue extends beyond the surface, and skin fails to grow over it. This type of growth is called exuberant granulation tissue, or proud flesh. It can be removed by a physician. FRANK W. KONZELMANN, M. D. Mercy Hospital, Sea Isle City, N.J.
