Use Small Aviary:

Use Small Aviary Use large bird cage (see Part IV) for a pair or place them in small outdoor aviary. Provide standard wooden nesting box for love birds; purchase at pet store. Place box high up at back of cage or aviary; leave in cage at all times as mated pair sleep in box at night. Provide 6-8-inch sections of honeysuckle or similar vines, bunches of long grasses, and pieces of green palm leaves as nesting material.

Need large space; use small aviary or screened-in porch. In the wild, cockateels nest in hollow limbs, holes in trees, and in old stumps; usually select large holes in dead trees; eggs are laid on decaying wood at bottom of hole. Provide birds with small barrel, such as pickle or small nail keg; place high up and at back of cage.

The ring-necked dove is equally as excellent for a pet as the pigeon. It is also intelligent, very gentle, affectionate, and altogether delightful. It is easily maintained when properly housed and fed, and given freedom in the room. At home a small aviary or screened-in porch is ideal.
