World-wide Family Of Stout-bodied: In 1595, Hawkins and Drake led a joint operation against the Spaniards in the Caribbean. It was a failure—both men were old and ailing, and both died on the voyage. Hawkins died off Puerto Rico on Nov. 12, 1595.
HAWKMOTH, any of a world-wide family of stout-bodied, strong-flying moths, also commonly known as sphinx moths. The family Sphingidae is made up of more than 1,000 species. The adults have relatively slender, elongated fore wings, and their wingspan ranges from 1.5 to over 7 inches (38-177 mm). The proboscis is usually well developed for feeding on flower nectar; in some species it reaches a length of more itures, often shaping them into hourglass forms.
Most hakes are of medium size, but the European hake can grow to a length of 4 feet (1.2 meters) and the North American silver hake to a length of about 3 feet (90 cm). Some hakes (genera Phycis and Urophycis) are typically cod-like, with the adults stout-bodied and brownish grey in color, while others (genus Merluccius) are often slender-bodied and silvery. All Lakes are carnivorous and voracious, feeding on small fish, squid, and crustaceans.
Hakes are classified in the family Gadidae of the order Gadifonnes.
They include bitter or pale ale; strong ale; draught mild ale and bottled brown ale. Stout and porter (which is a weak stout) are also top-fermented.
Lager-type beers are the most widespread. They have a longer maturation time than ales (up to six months as opposed to four weeks at the most for ales). The main types are Pilsener and Dortmund.
